OUR PHILOSOPHY

Altona Meadows Kindergarten is a long-standing community  that recognises, respects and values the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of this land.

We are committed to implementing environmental sustainability into the children’s learning and practice and encouraging children to care for the natural environment.

At Altona Meadows Kindergarten, we believe that a child’s early years are a unique and valuable time in their lives. It is essential for all children’s wellbeing and learning to feel safe, happy, acknowledged and have a sense of belonging and connection when attending our centre. We recognise that children learn in different ways and at different times. When nurtured, valued, heard and consulted, they are empowered as competent and capable learners.

We recognise that play and meaningful interactions are essential to children’s development and are most valuable when the child’s interests are acknowledged and they are able to contribute to decision making.

We provide an indoor and outdoor program within an evolving environment that is welcoming, caring, safe, supportive and inclusive.  Our environment and educators support children to make choices, take risks, explore, imagine, collaborate and problem solve, inviting the children to be curious, creative and to learn.

We acknowledge families as the child’s first teacher, recognising the value of establishing partnerships and maintaining open communication between educators and families.   We respect diversity in beliefs, cultures and traditions of our families and welcome their contributions and involvement in the program.

We believe that caring and informed educators ensure best practice in the provision of a holistic education and care service for our children and families. We pride ourselves on being a child safe service where children’s health, safety and wellbeing is central to our practices.

We aspire to be a kindergarten of best practice that reflects the values and beliefs of our families, educators, committee of management and of our community.

Altona Meadows Kindergarten is committed to child safety. All children attending Altona Meadows Kindergarten have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children is a fundamental responsibility of all within our kindergarten.
